It's my impression that the Makah are a Leaver people who are trying to reconnect with their distinct cultural identity. On the other hand, it's being said by many that they're not interested in the preservation of their culture, but the sale of black-market whale meat to Japan. What do you think?

I have no special information on the matter, but the charge that the Makah are just planning to sell the meat in Japan reminds me of the various charges put forward speculatively against the Branch Davidian cult in Waco, fishing for one that would turn the public against them. If it doesn't work to say they want to sell the meat in Japan, say they sexually abuse their children.
