I just read Ishmael, My Ishmael, and the story of B. One thing seems to need qualification. Tribal warfare, described as give a little, take a little, must have had a sexual component. As proof: the Amish, a large community who live as agrarians in Northern Ohio, have had a closed community for only a couple hundred years and inbreeding has resulted in a third of their children being handicapped. The Navaho, the Hopi, etc, were strong people (genetically) and therefore must have had some method of exchanging their gene pool, not their culture or identity, with their neighbors. The strategies of the tribes must have all been varied, but exchange of their gene pools must have occurred.
