    Why are you here?

I was Pagan and had been drifting to animist for years before discovering DQ's books, so they struck a chord. The only way we can save ourselves is to reconnect with our "animal selves" in a good sense. Our culture has long since twisted that idea to mean just violent, perverted people are "animals," but many animals are far more humane than some humans. The Earth really doesn't need saving; she'll do just fine without us, given enough time to recover. To survive, though, WE desperately need her and our animal, plant, and other cousins, now more than ever. If "ducklings" are children of ducks and "goslings" those of geese, "earthlings" must be children of Earth... and we especially need to help Mom now. :)

Any other personal information/resources/advice/ideas to share?

** I'd love to start or join a group in the Tempe/Phoenix area discussing these issues and acting on them (politically, spiritually or otherwise). In everyday life, I've only come across two people so far who have ever read anything by DQ, and one of them was the person to intro'd me to his work. **

Some good books I'd recommend: Chellis Glendinning: My Name is Chellis & I'm in Recovery from Western Civilization (great title, huh?) Marlo Morgan: Mutant Message Down Under (yes, our culture is the mutant one) Fred Alan Wolf: The Eagle's Quest (shamanic thought compared, favorably, to modern physics) Anything on shamanism (the magical/psychological aspect of animism) by John/Caitlin Williams, Michael Harner, others.
