When I read "Ishmael" in 1993, I knew I'd found the perfect expression of the worldview I'd been trying to form for myself - and I'd learned a whole lot more in the process. Ever since then, I have kept up with Quinn's work, even attending his weekend seminar in June 1999. Among other things, I was inspired to return to school to ground myself in some of the knowledge behind Quinn's writings. In Jan 2001, I completed a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center, where I customized a curriculum in ecology and society. My thesis is essentially an argument for 1) how our global society is, in fact, unsustainable, 2) Quinn's explanations of how things got to be the way they are, with additional embellishments and analysis, and 3) Quinn's suggestions for how we can fix things, with additional embellishments and analysis. I am currently involved in a number of other things that are hopefully my best ways to have an impact in the direction we're hoping for.
